In contrast to cutaneous melanoma, clear cell sarcomas invariably arise in the deep soft tissue of the distal extremities, and 70% possess a consistent balanced translocation t(12;22)(q13;q12) that is not found in melanoma and is believed to be an early, if not primary, event in tumorigenesis
