So of course we know that smoking can increase your risk of diseases, like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD, but researchers at Monash Uni surveyed people around their experience of care from a GP and whether they got the support that they had hoped to get when they went to that GP, and found that people with smoking-related diseases, especially COPD, said that they experienced stigma at the GP, feeling judged, like they got a reduced level of service or made to feel ashamed because there is this sort of sense that these diseases are self-inflicted
